From 21 to 24 August, Chaves will once again delve into the past with another edition of the Festa dos Povos – Aquae Flaviae, an event that transforms the city into a living stage of the Roman Empire. For four days, Alameda do Tabolado hosts a living recreation of the ancient city of Aquae Flaviae, in a historic setting dating back to the reign of Emperor Titus Flavius Vespasianus.

More than two hundred extras and merchants take part in this journey through time, bringing to life an intense programme that combines culture, spectacle and tradition. Gladiators, Roman soldiers, priests, Galician peoples and ancient gods fill the streets with life, music and colour, in an immersive experience for visitors of all ages.

The programme includes various themed areas, such as the Gladiator and Roman Military Camps, the Galician Peoples, the Pantheon of Gods and the Torture Exhibition, providing moments of learning and entertainment. Among the planned activities are gladiator fights, war simulations, historical parades, dances, traditional games, musical performances, and demonstrations of ancient crafts.

Festa dos Povos also has a strong family focus, with children's activities and exotic animals and birds, making the event appealing to both residents and tourists.

Organised by the Municipality of Chaves, this initiative is free to attend and celebrates the historical and cultural identity of the region, attracting thousands of visitors every year.
