It is said in the region that during the second French invasion, the people of what is now the municipality of Boticas, afraid that their belongings would be plundered, hid what they could, including the wine, which was buried in the cellar floor under the barrels and presses. When the invaders left and it was unearthed, it had qualities unknown until then.

A testimony to the ingenuity and resilience of the people of Boticas that has reached the present day.
The tradition of burying the wine continues to this day and is known as Vinho dos Mortos (Wine of the Dead).
