Located in the municipality of Montalegre on a small peninsula on the southern bank of the Alto Rabagão (or Pisões) dam reservoir, the village, a finalist in the "7 Maravilhas de Portugal - Aldeias" (7 Wonders of Portugal - Villages) contest, surprises by the beauty of its natural environment and is a must visit in the Barroso region.

The reservoir, of the dam finished in 1964, is fed by the River Rabagão (a tributary of the River Cávado) and has an area of about 2,200 hectares, much sought after by trout fishermen and for tours along the banks of the immense mirror of water.
