Quinta do Cruzeiro House Museum

Boticas

The house of Quinta do Cruzeiro, also known as Casa dos Silvas - surname of the family that lived here for several generations - was once part of a larger agrarian structure, consisting of casais (dispersed parcels), which served to support the owners and servants. Today, only the land adjacent to the house remains from this agrarian structure.

ON THE FARM you will learn about the social life of the house and work in the village of Covas do Barroso.

The house includes a wine press, a cellar, an alembic, a warehouse for tools, a warehouse for olive oil and wine, a warehouse or pantry for meat, a warehouse for potatoes, a pig and donkey pen, a chicken and rabbit pen, the tulhão - threshing floor complex, reed beds and temporary workers' storage and accommodation building - a mill and olive press.

There is also a hydraulic device for sawing wood, a linen mill and a small cabin for producing electricity using the movement of water.

By touring the different spaces you can learn about some aspects of the social life of the house and work on the farm and village of Covas do Barroso. Free entry.

It is usually open between July and September, but can be visited the rest of the year by appointment. For more information contact the Municipality of Boticas.
