Hillfort of Curalha

Chaves

The fortified settlement, with three lines of ellipsoidal walls, seems to be organised around a central street, where there are quadrangular houses with walls also supported on the inside of the wall. It is believed to have had Roman and medieval occupation, possibly reusing a pre-Roman settlement.

The top of the hillfort offers breathtaking views.

It is probably the best-known hillfort in the municipality of Chaves and stands out for its good state of preservation, easy accessibility – located approximately 700 metres from National Road 103, with the last 200 metres on foot – and stunning views over the River Tâmega and the surrounding pine forest.
