Mound of Chã do Lesenho

The Mound of Chã do Lesenho is a megalithic funerary monument (chronological-cultural period: ± 4000 BC/Neolithic), composed of a chamber under an earth and stone tumulus, which forms a small elevation (the mound). Approximately in the centre, it is possible to see four camera struts and the roof slab, displaced.

Hillfort of Outeiro Lesenho

The Hillfort of Outeiro Lesenho crowns the hill of the same name, which rises to an altitude of 1078 metres and dominates a wide landscape that encompasses practically the entire municipality of Boticas.

It is one of the best known fortified settlements of the Iron Age in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula.

This is one of the best-known Iron Age fortified settlements in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula, not only because of its size and monumentality, but above all because it is associated with the largest group of statues of Castro warriors.

Classified as Property of Public Interest, it has been the object of continuous study, conservation and enhancement projects, promoted by the municipality of Boticas.

The Hillfort of Outeiro Lesenho is part of Rede de Castros do Noroeste (Hillforts Network of the Northwest).

Location

The hillfort is 2 km away from the village of Campos in Boticas. When you see a sign pointing to a dirt track, park and follow the remaining 800 metres (distance to the hillfort) on foot.

The dirt roads are not suitable for light vehicles.
