The Batocas mining area is located between the Ardãos and Sangrinheira streams, stretching about 550 meters in a north/south direction and about 260 meters in an east/west direction.

Close to the mining site is the settlement of Batocas.

Currently covered by dense oak forests and punctuated by small ponds, the mining area is defined by extensive cuts and trenches, with some gallery entrances identified on the side slopes.

Overlooking the mine is the 1900-year-old Roman mining settlement of Batocas, which is currently the subject of archaeological studies.
