Alegria dos Vivos is a wine created in honour of Armindo de Sousa Pereira.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Armindo de Sousa Pereira (1947-2024) was the man who gave new life to the historic Vinho dos Mortos and ensured the continuity of a legacy spanning more than two centuries, rooted in the family tradition of Casa Sousa (1792).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Made from old vines of the Gouveio, Arinto, Viosinho and Rabigato grape varieties, located at an altitude of 700 metres on granite soils, Alegria dos Vivos 2024 expresses the authenticity of mountain viticulture with a limited edition of 1,906 numbered bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A legacy spanning more than TWO CENTURIES.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The tradition of Vinho dos Mortos began in the early 19th century, when the people of what is now the Boticas region buried wine in the floor of their cellars to protect it from being looted by French troops. When they dug it up, they discovered that the wine had acquired unusual properties: low alcohol content and slight natural gas, the result of fermentation during the period it remained buried, benefiting from the constant temperature and absence of light. Thus, it was given the name Vinho dos Mortos (Wine of the Dead). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An accidental discovery became one of the most emblematic stories of Portuguese wine heritage, a tradition that continues to this day and is now complemented by the launch of \"Alegria dos Vivos\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
